All India Jain Youth Federation, Hubli is a social organization constituted by the likeminded enthusiastic youths with the basic object to serve the humanity, irrespective of caste, color or creed, based on the teachings of Bhagwan Mahaveer - LIVE AND LET LIVE. The Federation is well-engaged in various social welfare activities in this part of Karnataka, especially for the benefit of blind, down-trodden, physically handicapped and other weaker sections of Society, whose financial condition prevents them from enjoying the quality of life that everyone deserves.
Shri Mahendra H. Singhi the founder and the President of the federation, has been instrumental in conducting the first "Free Jaipur Artificial Limb Camp" at Hubli for 10 days during February 1992, wherein 412 physically handicapped brethren were provided artificial limbs free of cost including free boarding and lodging facilities. This was the first biggest Camp organized in Karnataka.
Later, realizing the need for establishing a permanent hospital for disabled persons, he started Mahaveer Limbs Centre at KIMS premises Vidyanagar, Hubli in Feb 1997 with the help of dedicated members of the Federation. Under his president ship, till date, 10,248 artificial limbs have been provided to disabled persons free of cost and 50 free camps have been conducted at various places in Karnataka, including rural areas and neighboring States.
In addition to the above, Sri Mahendra H. Singhi is actively involved in various social activities.
FREE JAIPUR ARTIFICIAL HAND CAMP:
A unique 10 days 'Free Jaipur Artificial Hand Camp' was organized at Hubli during May, 2000 for the benefit of physically handicapped persons who lost their arms for any cause. This was the first Camp of its kind organized in India. In this Camp, totally 55 artificial hands were provided to the patients free of cost, including free accommodation, food and medicines. After fitment of artificial hand the patient can write, drive and even carry weight up to 10 Kgs.
FREE PLASTIC SURGERY CAMP:
a) Conducted 3 days unique 'FREE PLASTIC SURGERY CAMP' at Hubli from
07.02.2000 to 09.02.2000 for the first time in the history of North Karnataka. The Camp is lead by the renowned Doctor "Padmabhushan" Sharad Kumar Dicksheet from U.S.A. The persons with deformities like scars on face, cleft clips, etc. who cannot afford to spend Rs.15,000/- to 20,000/- and more for the re-constructive operations are benefited by this Camp. In this camp, 174 patients were given treatment, totally free of cost, including free food and medicines.
b) A similar second camp was conducted at Hubli from 30.01.2001 to 01.02.2001 wherein 140 Nos. of patients were given free treatment.
c) Further a similar 3rd Camp was conducted at Hubli from 07.04.03 to 09.04.03, wherein 150 patients were treated free.
COOL DRINKING WATER HUTS TO QUENCH THE THIRST OF PUBLIC:
a) Constructed Hygienic "Cool Drinking Water-Hut" at Hubli Railway station, at a cost of Rs. 3.5 Lakhs for the use of innumerable Rail passengers and the public. This was inaugurated on 04.11.96.
b) A Unique "Cold & Hot Drinking Water Hut" built at a cost of Rs. 3.5 Lakhs in New Central Bus-Stand, NWKRTC, Gokul Road, Hubli, was inaugurated on 23.09.2000 and is being used by the traveling public to drink clean, cold and hot water.
e) Constructed a hygienic Cool Drinking Water Hut at Kanak Bhavan, Gadag at a cost of Rs.3 lakhs.
LENDING A HELPING HAND IN NATURAL CAILAMITIES:
a) Donated Rs.1,07,000/- (Rupees One Lakh and Seven thousand only) and food grains collected from the public and visited, at the first instance, to Sholapur District at the time of the most unfortunate natural calamity, i.e.. earthquake at Latur, during Oct'93, and handed over the cash and food grains to Shri Sharad Pawar, the then Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra as relief for rehabilitation of Earthquake victims at Latur.
b) The members contributed Rs. 1,25,000/- (Rupees One Lakh and twenty-five thousand only), and collected funds from the public by moving in the Streets of Hubli city, and the collected funds were given to "Prime Minister's Relief fund" as relief fund for rehabilitation of Tsunami disastrous calamity victims of 26.12.2004. The Federation was first to respond and the amount was collected and handed over on 27.12.2004 itself.
CARE FOR DESERVING SCHOOL CHILDREN (BELOW POVERTY LINE):
a) 1,00,000 Notes books of brand name 'AHIMSA, 1,800 Compass boxes, School bags etc. are being distributed to school children at concession rates, at the beginning of every scholastic year.
b) For the benefit of school-going children, started Mahaveer School Text Book Bank during May'95, wherein selected students from I" to Xth Std. of various schools of Hubli-Dharwad are given free textbooks every year. More than 500 school children are being benefited every year.
c) Adopted 100 school girl children and donated Rs.1.20 lakhs towards Mid-day meals scheme of ISKCON's Akshay Patra Yojana, Govt. of Karnataka, at Hubli. Sri R. V. Deshpande, Hon'ble Minister for Co-operation inaugurated the Scheme in the function organized at Hubli.
SELF-EMPLOYMENT - FREE COMPUTER TYPING COURSES:
To encourage self-employment and job opportunities, free Typing course and free Computer courses are being organized from time to time, especially for poor people. Till date, totally 8 such courses have been organized and about 800 students are benefited.
Sweaters are being distributed to orphans every year during the winter season.
Sewing machines have been distributed to the poor widows and the needy women on number of occasions.
Conducting "Healthy Baby Show" every year on 14'h November in commemoration of birth anniversary of late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, which is celebrated as Children's day.
"New Year Day" celebrated every year with mentally retarded patients at Karnataka Institute of Mental Health, Dharwad and distribute sweets and fruits to the patients wishing them for speedy recovery.
